International Speaker

Zack Eswine

pastor

A pastor at Riverside Church in Missouri, Zack describes himself as a ‘flawed but earnest’ encourager of those working in ministry. He is extremely passionate about supporting Christian ministry workers as they ask questions and speak honestly about their doubts and uncertainties. This passion has led to the founding of Sage Christianity: an organisation where Zack, along with wife Jessica, aim to create a safe space for those in ministry to bring their doubts into conversation with the wisdom of Jesus.

When he’s not busy mentoring, preaching or writing a book, Zack enjoys watching ‘old’ movies, reading a good novel or essay, and cheering on his basketball team with his four kids. When he really needs to focus on Jesus, Zack likes to sit by the ocean; he says that it calms his mind and helps him zero-in on God’s voice.

Local Speaker

Jonathan Andrews

clinical psychologist, heart in mind

Dr Jonathan Andrews is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years experience in private practice. He is the Director of Heart in Mind, a psychological practice in Brisbane. He is going to talk to us about the importance of being seen by each other and being seen by God. “Without that,” he says, “you may not feel connected and without connection you may not flourish or worse still you may not find resolution for deeper heart issues”.

Jonathan recently wrote a book called The Reconnected Heart. In it, he proposes that a three way connection (with God, with others and with ourselves) can not only rebuild our hearts when they’ve been broken but can help us thrive.

He is married to Kylie and they have 4 children. He first went to Katoomba Christian Convention in 1989 when there was a big circus tent down on the oval. “I still remember parts of the talks that I heard,” he said, “I sat next to my friend Peter, we listened to the speakers… some of the words from those talks still encourage me to this day.”

Contemporary culture would have men think that ‘standing on their own two feet’ is the way to be man, whereas I find it incredibly powerful to see so many Christian men, by their mere presence at BASECAMP, stand and say that relying on Jesus is God’s way to be man.”
