It’s time to get refuelled

Their world had turned upside down. Their last 3 years had been dedicated to being with Jesus, 24/7. They had given up everything to follow him. And now he was dead. Not only was he dead, they had watched him die – the most terrible, humiliating death.

Can you imagine how they must have been feeling? The trauma, the sadness, the uncertainty, the despair, the fear? As the risen Jesus enters through the locked door of the upper room where his disciples were hiding, what is the first thing he says to them?

"Peace with with you."

In fact, Jesus repeats this phrase two more times (read John 20:19-27). Of course, anyone can say "Peace be with you," but these words come with power when they are spoken by the Prince of Peace.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

What a comfort it must have been to see his face and hear those words. While we do not see his face (yet), these words are for us, too. Whatever we are facing. However we are feeling.
