BASECAMP 2026 was an answer to a prompting Rob had been carrying since the start of 2026. After searching for a Christian men’s conference, he found BASECAMP and attended the conference for the first time. What he found was a weekend that encouraged him to focus less on his own struggles and more on Jesus, while reminding him that he wasn’t alone in the challenges of following Christ.
1. Please introduce yourself.
I’m Rob and I live in Canberra with my wife Tai. We attend C3 Church in Canberra. I have been attending for 15 years and my wife 11 years following our marriage in Hong Kong and Tai’s subsequent immigration to Australia. I grew up in a Christian family in Sydney but moved to Canberra 21 years ago to work as an Accountant with the federal government.
2. How many times have you attended BASECAMP and what made you want to attend this year?
2026 was my first year to attend Basecamp. The impetus for attending was that in January 2026, I felt the Holy Spirit specifically prompting me to find a Christian Men’s Conference. My search led me to BASECAMP. As an added bonus, given that the 2026 conference was held at Katoomba, I could stay with one of my brothers who lived in the Blue Mountains. I registered immediately and, the conference did not disappoint. It was exactly as the Holy Spirit had laid on my heart.
3. How has BASECAMP encouraged your faith over the years?
Having currently attended only one conference, my views are based solely on the 2026 experience. Such was the experience, that I registered for BASECAMP 2027 before the 2026 weekend had even concluded. There is something deeply powerful, unifying, uplifting and energising being in the midst of a couple of thousand men whose hearts and mind are in one accord: Jesus-focussed.
It is also encouraging and comforting to know that there is much commonality in the struggles and challenges that Christian men have in their walk with Jesus. For me, this took a weight off my shoulders and shifted my focus even more on Jesus, and less on me and my struggles; a principle which is well illustrated in Matthew 14: 28-31 where Peter walks on water because he is focussing on Jesus and not his struggles.
“There is something deeply powerful, unifying, uplifting and energising being in the midst of a couple of thousand men whose hearts and mind are in one accord: Jesus-focussed.”
4. Can you share a takeaway from the talks or something that’s stuck with you even as you’ve gone home?
a) Matt Fuller’s encouragement to simply trust what God says: that fear of what is in front of us can crowd out the promises of God. The sobering fact that fear equals disobedience, that obedience to and trust in God’s promises is a choice, not a feeling.
b) Matt Steele’s insight into being resolute, defined as being steady, unwavering, purposeful, determined, and led by conviction in my interactions with people. In practical terms, being less reactive and more aware of the triggers in my thought-life when I feel threatened. This will often be because in my mind, I have placed certain expectations in people or relationships, or I let pride dictate.
“… trust in God’s promises is a choice, not a feeling.”
5. A highlight from the weekend?
It was awesome sharing the conference with like-minded “real” men. By this I mean, down-to-earth guys, no one-upmanship or competing with one another: guys, just like me, attending to learn and grow and and encourage other men and committed to doing life in a way that honours our Father in Heaven.
I also learned that KCC also hold other conferences for women, young people, young adults and families. Given the awesome BASECAMP, I encouraged by wife to attend One Love in Norwest. This too was her first time KCC conference attendance. Next year, we will also be attending the Easter Conference.

6. What would you say to someone who might be on the fence about coming?
The conference was awesome and did not feel rushed. The topics / contents are relevant and meaningful, packed with plenty of guidance for applying it practically. God is your biggest fan men: He is not your critic. Men have a unique role to play in society, families and the workplace. You will come away from the conference knowing (as opposed to simply “believing”) that God has your back in every part and aspect of your life because He is adamant that you and I thrive and fulfill the purposes He has for us.
They have a massive, awesome pop-up bookshop full of excellent resources!
Not to mention the great feed!!!!

John Stott says, “Holiness is not a condition into which we can drift.” No one wakes up one day and finds himself holy. Character is shaped by direction, and if we aren’t actively pursuing Christ, we are drifting toward something else.
Left unchecked, that drift carries us toward the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. These vices rarely announce themselves. They arrive one small compromise at a time until they become habits, and the habits become the shape of a man’s life.
Every man is becoming someone, and the question is who. We need to look honestly at the trajectory of our lives and ask, What man am I becoming? Then comes the deeper question: How do we go from drifting to pursuing Christ?
Together we will explore and learn how to live out what it means to stop drifting with the current and start moving with purpose toward the One who calls us into men of lasting character.
